Ethical Consumption: Harry Potter
About
Our Mission and Values
Disclaimer: This website was designed and written by a cis woman who studies Philosophy and loves the Harry Potter series. I know that for most trans people, this conversation is beyond the philosophical component and a matter of life and death. I consider myself an ally, but my experiences are vastly different from people who were directly affected by all of these. Because of this, I would love to hear from you to educate myself more and grow: please email badwolfminerva@protonmail.com if there is something I wrote that you would like to correct or expand upon.
Ethical Consumption: Harry Potter is a blog that discusses how to consume Harry Potter in an ethical manner. After the controversies regarding the author's transphobic views, a lot of trans people and allies felt a disdain towards the series. Trans people were disappointed and allies wanted to ensure minimal association with author and her views. Within the fandom, many people have separated the art from the artist: They wanted to start consuming Harry Potter in a way that does not support the author in any monetary way. This website looks over at the history of the controversy, and offers some practical solutions of royalty-free consumption that is in line with philosophical perspectives.
The goal of the website is to ensure that people can continue to enjoy a series if they wish to do so, in a way that aligns with their values and allyship.
